Beginners Courses

Glasgow Archers normally run beginner’s courses at set times of the year. Each course consists of a block of 4 lessons introducing beginners to the sport. Safety and field etiquette are taught and on completion of each block beginners are awarded a certificate to prove that they have successfully completed an archery beginners course.  Included in the beginners course fee is the use of all necessary equipment.  Please contact the club secretary Rona Mather for details of the beginner’s course dates.

Joining Glasgow Archers

Joining, or shooting with, Glasgow Archers is easy. Completion of our own beginner’s course (or a short competency assessment if your beginner’s course was completed by another club) is usually all that is required to advance to full club membership.

Affiliated membership of the UK Governing Body (GNAS) which provides insurance cover and the Scottish Governing Body (SAA) is a requirement. Fees to each organisation and club fees are set annually and are payable in two parts (one in September and the other in February).

Like most clubs throughout Scotland Glasgow Archers welcomes GNAS registered members from other clubs to use both the indoor and outdoor facilities for a modest fee. Please follow this link to fees for details of the 2010 fees and charges.

Archery as a sport

Target Archery is a sport covered by a hierarchy of organisations ranging through local to International and Olympic status.

Glasgow Archers form part of this chain and archers can progress their sporting career through the club as high as their ambitions and abilities allow.

Whilst archery is a minority sport it contains within its structure an easy to follow system of classification which provides progress and achievable targets for all archers.

Competitions, or shoots, are a great place to get to know archers from other parts of the country and meet people with a common interest.  For those interested there are competitions arranged around the country at very regular intervals. Some of the most beautiful of areas in Scotland host shoots. Our own ground at Craigholme abuts Pollok Park (home of the Burrell Collection and Pollok House) winner of the best park in Britain award 2007 and voted the best park in Europe 2008.
