Welcome to the Glasgow Archers website

Glasgow Archers was formed in 1948 and celebrated its diamond jubilee in 2008. With more than 50 archers it is one of the largest archery clubs in Scotland.  Our members range from teenagers to those who just won’t say how old they are.  We cater for those who are serious competitors and those who just like the exercise and enjoyment. Members have represented the club at local and national competitions with some even representing Scotland on the world stage.

We shoot on a Wednesday night beginning 18:30hrs and, for our summer outdoor tuition, practice and competitions, are privileged to have the use of one of the best shooting grounds in Scotland at Craigholme School playing fields . Over the winter months we shoot indoors at Mearns Castle High School just south of Glasgow but are looking to move to Craigholme Sports Pavilion in 2010.

Recurve, compound, and traditional archers are all welcome although beginner’s tuition at present is limited to recurve bows only.  Both of our venues are accessible for wheelchair users in terms of parking, access and toilet facilities. Craigholme, like any outdoor facility in Scotland, can get muddy in the rain and waterproof footwear is recommended. The Mearns Castle High School venue is a games hall and as such indoor shoes should be worn, preferably flat or low heeled.

Please note that both Craigholme School playing fields and Mearns Castle High School games hall are school facilities first and foremost and as such may be in use by the pupils. Members and visitors are discouraged from turning up outwith the agreed club times without prior consent.

As well as practice for the members we offer beginners courses, where experienced members willingly give their own time to help with safe tuition.

Competitions

During the outdoor season we host a number of competitions at Craigholme. As well as hosting two of the biggest events, the Scottish Open Championships and the Glasgow Open we run a number of fun shoots throughout the year usually followed by a BBQ or informal buffet.  The 20 yard indoor facility at Mearns Castle High School allows us to participate in the winter postal league competition that runs during the indoor season.

Details and entry forms for our club shoots can be found here. Please follow this link to the Scottish Archery Association diary where details of other events, costs and entry forms can be obtained.
